Common questions

Paved or rugged underfoot?
Unpaved woodland trail and old cart paths throughout, not a stroller-friendly surface.
Can my dog run off-leash?
In parts of the property yes, but it needs to go back on leash in the parking lot, near water, and whenever you pass another hiker, and no more than two dogs at once can be off-leash.
Is there a hunting season to watch for?
No, hunting and trapping are prohibited on this and every other Wayland town conservation parcel.
Can I bring my dog to Hamlen Woods?
Dogs may be off-leash in some areas but must be leashed in the parking lot and kept off trail-adjacent ponds/streams/vernal pools, on a leash when passing other hikers, with a 3-dog-per-person cap (2 off-leash max).
What rules should I know at Hamlen Woods?
No motorized vehicles, hunting, or trapping; camping requires a special permit.
