A 77-acre conservation area above the Wareham Fire District's water wells, purchased by the Wareham Fire District Water Department for $1.15 million (aided by a $350,000 state grant) from the A.D. Makepeace cranberry company to protect local drinking water. In 2025 the Wareham Zoning Board of Appeals turned down a solar development proposal on part of the land, keeping it protected above the town's water wells.
