Puffer's Pond, also called Factory Hollow Pond, is North Amherst's swimming hole on the Mill River: an 11-acre pond with North and South beaches, no lifeguard, and long-running restrictions on dogs at the water. It's popular in summer despite periodic water-quality advisories.

Common questions
Can I swim at Puffer's Pond?
Yes, swimming is allowed 6am to dusk, but there's no lifeguard, so it's at your own risk, and water quality is tested weekly during the Memorial Day to Labor Day season.
Not onto the beaches or into the pond itself. Dogs must stay leashed and can swim instead in Cushman Brook or the Mill River nearby.
Where do I park when it's full?
Parking is street parking near the entrance, mainly along State Street; posted restrictions block the south side of State Street between Sand Hill Road and the main entrance, in front of emergency gates, and overnight from 8:30pm to 6am.
Is there an entry fee at Puffer's Pond Conservation Area?
No, entry is free.
Can I bring my dog to Puffer's Pond Conservation Area?
Not allowed on North Beach, South Beach, or in the pond itself; dogs may swim upstream in Cushman Brook or downstream in the Mill River, leashed at all times.
What rules should I know at Puffer's Pond Conservation Area?
No lifeguard; swim at your own risk. No alcoholic beverages or smoking. No glass containers anywhere around the pond. No fires, including grills. Fishing from canoes or kayaks is prohibited.
