Harbor Beach

OpenOcean beach · Provincetown, MA

No swimming today: a water-quality advisory in the latest state posting. The beach itself stays open.

A working-harbor beach with no single entrance. You get to the sand through more than a dozen narrow, sometimes unmarked town landings squeezed between shops and guesthouses along Commercial Street. Calm, warm bay water with boat traffic close by; better for a quick dip and watching MacMillan Wharf than a big-beach day.

Common questions

Is Harbor Beach in Provincetown open today?
Under a swimming advisory as of the latest MA DPH posting. The beach itself stays open, but swimming isn't recommended (updated 2026-07-16). MA DPH is the authority. Check the status the morning you go.
How do I find a town landing along Commercial St?
They're public rights-of-way scattered the length of Commercial St, marked but often inconspicuous - sometimes nothing more than a narrow gap between two buildings; there are around 8 officially numbered Town Landings plus additional named/street-address access points.
Where do I park if the lots near my landing are full?
Grace Hall Lot (354 spaces) and MacMillan Pier Lot (323 spaces) are the two large municipal lots and usually have the most capacity; street parking along Commercial St is metered via the Passport Parking app.
When can dogs be off-leash on the beach?
Memorial Day through Nov 1: 6-9am and 6-9pm. Nov 2 through the day before Memorial Day: 6am-9pm. Dogs must be under voice and sight control off-leash, and leashed at all other times.
Are there restrooms at Harbor Beach?
Public restrooms are listed near the beach. Seasonal hours are common, so they may be closed off-season.
What rules should I know at Harbor Beach?
No lifeguards anywhere on Harbor Beach; heavier boat traffic near MacMillan Wharf and the Good Templar Place town landing. No bonfires on Town beaches (bonfires with a permit are allowed only at Cape Cod National Seashore beaches).
